How it works
3-2-1 backup architecture
from small to large systems adapted to your needs
Services & Features
The primary system.
The primary system comprises a central Network Access Server (NAS) and a backup server. These two servers can be situated either at the customer's premises, at the DS-Consult offices, or across both locations. The capacity of the NAS is tailored to your specific storage requirements and availability needs. The principal NAS can serve various functions, including operating as a private cloud, an email and web server, a media server, and more.
Services & Features
A backup at a remote location.
The secondary system should be located either at a remote site of the customer or at the DS-Consult offices. DS-Consult offers two sites that are available, allowing for any possible combination. The backup servers are basic systems, as high availability is not a critical requirement.
Services & Features
Disk redundancy
Depending on the size of the Synology NAS, various solutions can be employed to address a disk failure. Disk arrays utilize different RAID strategies, allowing for the replacement of a failing disk without interrupting operations. Some configurations permit one disk failure, while others allow for two. Following a disk failure, it is crucial to replace the faulty disk promptly, necessitating approximately one day for resynchronization. This underscores the importance of continuous system monitoring.
Services & Features
High Availability
In scenarios where exceptionally high availability is required, it is possible to implement not only disk redundancy but also system redundancy. If one unit fails, the other can continue to operate, allowing for uninterrupted service and facilitating smooth repairs. However, it is important to note that this does not guarantee 100% availability, as necessary software updates for security purposes will occasionally require the system to be temporarily offline.
Services & Features
UPS use
Power failures are a reality, and server malfunctions can result in data loss. Therefore, utilizing an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) is essential. However, these units introduce an additional point of failure. Experience indicates that to prevent issues with the UPS, batteries should be replaced every three years. This replacement can be conducted without disrupting system operations.
Services & Features
A virtual network
Small business scenarios vary greatly. They can range from a single-site company with only a few employees to complex operations with multiple sites and numerous staff, including those on the move. DS-Consult excels in designing virtual networks that interconnect these diverse sites.
